Railroad Street in the northern section of Palmyra Borough had ongoing flooding issues and required strong stormwater management to provide solutions. However, the Borough needed to secure funding in order to move the project forward.

As the Borough Engineer, RETTEW assisted the client in securing Growing Greener Grants for design and construction of the forebay and wetlands. We prepared an overall assessment and feasibility study of the Borough’s stormwater needs. Our stormwater conveyance system design alleviated the flooding on Railroad Street. RETTEW also recommended diverting stormwater into the existing Shadowstone basin and away from sinkholes. In support of best management practices, our design converted the basin to a sediment forebay and expanded the wetlands for passive treatment of stormwater runoff from the urbanized land.
